From 2002 until 2009 I lived along a part of Brooklyn's Atlantic Avenue that plays host to many Muslim shops. This is a photograph of Mecca set against a sky interlaced with that miniscule fiber optic cable; when plugged in, the sky would undulate with gentle waves of tiny magic light dots. At least that is how it appeared in the window. I bought it for $12, brought it home, plugged it in and: nothing. I could never get it to work. Maybe it sensed my infidelness.
